REACT International, Inc. (REACT) – consists of Teams of Skilled Communications Volunteers – is a non-profit registered 501(c)3 organization. REACT has been monitoring the airwaves since 1962, and since its inception REACT volunteers have been providing a wide range of radio related services to the public.

REACT is a network of committed professionals with a desire to assist their communities in times of emergency or disaster. Our members provide their expertise when disasters strike and assist with augmenting local resources with the goal of accelerating relief efforts.

What is the modern REACT all about?

It is amazing to see the various programs and relationships that have developed between REACT Teams and their local governments and emergency services. Teams may: provide first-aid and communications at a multitude of publicly attended events, directly assist local police services with traffic control, provide specialized equipment such as scene lighting, and the list goes on. The interesting thing is that these initiatives come from local teams recognizing the needs in their communities which, with planning and creative thinking, their organizations can fulfill.

Although REACT’s roots are in communications, most successful teams have gone way beyond this role in their communities. Given the incredible advances in personal communications, successful teams have honed in on an expanded role to ensure their long term viability in providing a multitude of services. Keep in mind, communication technology is only one of the tools teams can utilize to solidify their position within their communities.

Are you prepared to recognize new and exiting opportunities as they present themselves? What ideas can you bring to the table to be a modern REACT Team.

To recognize modern REACT is to recognize that the future starts today, with you and your Team.

The Union City Rotary club consists of more than 145 business leaders and professionals. The Club is an organization that believes that service and philanthropy are the bases of worthy enterprise. Rotary has been an asset for our community since 1936.

The Union City Rotary Club takes great pride in our contributions and support of many service projects. Some of these projects include the Rotary & Verhine Scholarships where approximately $250,000 to $300,000 in Scholarships are awarded to area students annually, the Promethean Project where at risk pre-school children are given scholarships to preschools that follow a character building program.

Our Rotary Youth Travel program is the only one of its kind. Ten deserving high school students are chosen to travel for ten days in Europe with two chaperones and all expenses are paid by the club. The students return with a new appreciation and world view. We also provide a second trip for twelve students and two chaperones for a week traveling to Washington D.C. We believe the students obtain a new sense of understanding of our national history, government, and freedoms.

Union City Rotary also supports two youth leadership programs. The Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) is Rotary's Leadership Training Program for high school students. RYLA enables young adults to spend five days in June where they debate issues of professional responsibilities and human relations. RYLA provides the opportunity for the chosen students to refine skills and explore pertinent topics with their peers and elders. The Rotary Interact Club empowers young people in our community to develop leadership skills as they engage in developing their own Interact Club with a similar format promoting their leadership skills.

Union City Rotary has many other service programs as: Reading Railroad, Distinguished Speakers Foundation, and Rotary Relays. The Members of our club continue to actively practice Service Above Self which has been our purpose for 84 years.

The 2020-2021 Rotary year will bring special challenges due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. The two youth trips have been rescheduled to 2021, (4 trips in 2021). We practice social distancing at our weekly meetings and have used virtual settings for programs. We will meet the COVID-19 challenges and remain focused on Service Above Self.

I am honored to be a member of Union City Rotary Club and serve as your President.

Yours in Service,

Bob Regen
President 2020-2021
